Music Audition Requirements

Please follow the instructions below for your audition.

Admission to the following intensives are based on a recorded audition. After you have completed your online application, find and complete the Music Audition Form under Forms & Documents in your CampInTouch account.

The form will ask you to include:

  1. Link to your audition video/audio
  2. Audition Details (If applicable)**
  3. Brief description of your music experience or your music résumé
  4. Teacher Recommendation – required for all audition programs listed below. (Print form from your CampInTouch account under Forms & Documents; you can also upload completed forms there.)

Music: Audition material (1,2,3) will be entered into the Music Audition Form using CampInTouch account.

Audition Material Deadlines:

Symphony Orchestra & Chamber Festival Intensives: The priority audition deadline is Feb. 20, 2019, but applicants are encouraged to register and audition as early as possible. Please submit your application and audition as soon as possible to secure your seat.
Festival Choir, Songwriting, & Piano Performance Intensives: Until intensive is full.

2019 Chamber Intensive for Strings & Piano

2019 Chamber Intensive for Strings & Piano Audition Requirements

Audition material can be submitted in video or audio recording form, with or without accompaniment. Performance tempos and repertoire selections should highlight the student’s ability to play accurately and overall musicianship.

Strings:

  • One 3 octave scale
  • Two arpeggios (your choice of key)
  • One or more pieces demonstrating technical accomplishment (something fast) and interpretive ability (something slow and legato)

Pianists:

  • One piano solo of your choice that demonstrates interpretive skills in both slow and fast passages
  • Any piece of ensemble repertoire demonstrating collaborative skills with another instrument or instruments

2019 Symphony Orchestra Intensive

2019 Symphony Orchestra Intensive

Audition material can be submitted in video or audio recording form, with or without accompaniment. Performance tempos and repertoire selections should highlight your ability to play accurately and overall musicianship.

Strings: Ages 13–18

  • One 3 octave scale (2 octaves for basses)
  • One arpeggio (your choice of key)
  • One of more pieces demonstrating technical accomplishment (something fast) and interpretive ability (something slow and legato)


Winds And Brass: Ages 14–18

  • Two 2 octave scales with corresponding arpeggios (one prestissimo staccatissimo and the other largo legatissimo)
  • One or more pieces demonstrating technical level (something fast) and interpretive ability (something slow)


Percussion:

Snare Drum:

  • One etude from Advanced Snare Drum Studies by Mitchell Peters or comparable concert etude. Suggested: Etude #1

Keyboard:

  • 3 Major scales of your choice, 2 octaves
  • Chromatic scale, 2 octaves beginning on C
  • One two-mallet solo/etude from Modern School of Xylophone by Morris Goldenberg, Fundamental Method for Mallets by Mitchell Peters, or comparable etude. Suggested: Goldenberg Etude #5
  • Optional: One intermediate to advanced level four-mallet solo/etude

Timpani:

  • One etude from Fundamental Method for Timpani by Mitchell Peters or comparable etude. Suggested: Etude #51

2019 Festival Choir Intensive

2019 Festival Choir Intensive

Your audition video should include two short, contrasting (fast/slow, soft/loud) examples of your singing in whatever style you feel most comfortable, and one letter of recommendation from a music professional (choir director, voice or private teacher) who knows your work.

Returning students who have sung in the Festival Choir in the past four years do not need to audition for the 2019 session.

2019 Piano Performance Intensive

Your audition video should include you playing one work by a Baroque composer; one work by a Classical composer; and one work by a Romantic or a 20th Century composer.

2019 Songwriting Intensive

2019 Songwriting Intensive

Audition video must include 2-3 original songs demonstrating instrumental, vocal, and lyric writing skills; original song lyrics (enter in Audition Details section on the Music Audition Form); brief description of your musical and performance experience; and letter of recommendation from a private teacher or mentor who has personal knowledge of your musical abilities.

Returning Songwriters are required to re-audition.
