Avid Media Composer Fundamentals I

Develop new skills and get industry-certified through Avid-certified courses and exams for Media Composer. Learn the technical and operational skills needed to work in the film industry from an Avid-certified instructor and industry professional editor.

Avid Media Composer Fundamentals I (MC101) is the first of two foundational courses. In this course, you will focus on developing an understanding of and the capability to use Media Composer, together with a firm grasp of the core skills, workflows, and concepts of non-linear editing on the Avid Media Composer system.

This course series is designed to qualify you to enter the workforce as a post-production assistant, assistant editor, or video editor.

Ebook purchased separately. A certification exam is given at the end of the course for MC101.

Jon Alvord is an active film industry editor and supervisor in post-production and visual effects. He has worked on such films as Armageddon, Spy Kids 3, Sin City and X-Men. Most recently, Alvord premiered two projects in the Tribeca Film Festival and has received Emmy recognition for his work on the HBO Miniseries John Adams. He has been nominated for many awards, is an Avid-certified Instructor and is on faculty at Idyllwild Arts.

Avid Pro Tools Fundamentals I (PT101) is the first of two foundational courses. In this course, you will focus on developing an understanding of and the capability to use Avid Pro Tools to engineer a project through to completion, with all of the fundamental operational skills to record, edit, mix and output the finished session.

Faculty: James Arnold

James Kent Arnold is an accomplished artist in several disciplines. His training encompasses classical and modern fine art painting and sculpture, as well as live-action film, sound design and experimental video. Over the breadth of his career he has worked as a professor and professional filmmaker on projects ranging from the US Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, to an international video producer for Aveda Corporation and The Body Shop Corporation in London, UK.  His artistic style is often influenced by the discipline and inventiveness of American and European pioneers in film, painting, sculpture and photography. His mentors were pioneers of the American Avant Garde scene, including video artist Edward Emschwiller, performance artist Rachel Rosenthal, and musician John Cage.
