There are many reasons to donate to the Idyllwild Arts scholarship fund. Here are two:
Anila Mazhary learned about the Idyllwild Arts Academy through the summer program. Her public high school did not allow for the rigorous dance class and rehearsal schedule she insisted upon, so Anila’s mother (a single mother of four) and she moved to Idyllwild from Ashland Oregon. Anila’s mother took a part-time job with the school and Anila began here in 2003 with a partial scholarship. She has found a community of artist-peers and the mentorship to take her to the next level. She reports that she has felt blessed by the diversity of dance teachers at the academy. Anila won a number of awards during her time at Idyllwild Arts including the Emerging Young Artist in Los Angeles, first place in the Music Center Spotlight Award and the Outstanding Dance student and the Outstanding Arts Major. Anila has been accepted at Juilliard with a full tuition scholarship.
And Isaak Brown — a young creative writer. Isaak was editor-in-chief for the school’s literary magazine, senior class president, a tutor at the writing center and the winner of the Richard H. MacNeal Award which is the school’s highest honor. He is also one of 20 Presidential Scholars in the Arts in the nation. This is what Isaak has to say about being given the opportunity to study art, “…in all honesty, art is about belief. Faith, even. We have been given something that very few people get. We have been given passion. Something that drives us every day. Something to wake up for. And as much as a terrible burden art can seem sometime, like when your toes bleed through your point shoes or when all your meals taste like turpentine, we are lucky for it. We have been given the gift of something to believe in.”
These young people will make an impact on the world. Your donation can make a difference. Scholarship allow students who otherwise would not be able to attend the school to come to Idyllwild, study, learn and go out into the world with the desire and knowledge to share their passion for and carry the burden of art.
