Krone Museum

"The present is the living sum-total of the whole past."
Thomas Carlyle

In the mid 1940’s, when Max and Bee Krone envisioned, then founded the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts, they did so as a way of doing their part to create a more humane world through arts education. Memories of the inhumanity of World War II were painfully fresh. In the 60 years since the first arts class was held on campus in 1949, the Idyllwild Arts Foundation, through the Summer Arts program and the Arts Academy, has been guided by this vision.

Since it’s opening in 2000, the mission of the Krone Museum has been to conserve and preserve the collected artifacts of the history of Idyllwild Arts. Both in the physical museum and online, we celebrate the arts and the culture of the school through displays and presentations so that current and past students and staff as well as the general public may profit by our accomplishments.

The Krone Museum Collection consists of; Max and Bee Krone Archives, Patricia Meyers Musical Instruments, Marais & Miranda Collection, Meredith Wilson Music Collection, Ray Garner Film Collection, Virginia Garner Photography Collection, Robert Holmes Music Collection, The Visual Art Collection (which includes Lora Steere Sculpture collection, artwork by the Faculty and students, and the Native Arts collections and prints.), Idyllwild Arts History Collection. (concert recordings, written histories, series of annual notebooks, catalogues, posters memorabilia).
