Job Description - DIRECTOR OF MARKETING
Idyllwild Arts Foundation, an independent arts boarding school and summer program located in the San Jacinto Mountains of southern California, seeks a Director of Marketing to articulate and promote its mission and goals. The Director will execute an integrated marketing strategy for Idyllwild Arts, as adopted by the Board of Trustees, to boost the reputation of the school, attract prospective students, and inspire financial support. The Director will report to the Dean of Admission. He/she will also be responsible for developing and maintaining active and productive relationships with Board members, donors, administrators, and faculty.
This individual will be creative and strategic marketing professional who recognizes the unique attributes of Idyllwild Arts and creates opportunities to communicate these attributes to enhance the mission and strategic objectives of Idyllwild Arts.
The Director of Marketing is responsible for the following areas:
- Develop and execute a plan to define the school’s brand, and to market this brand in support of new enrollment initiatives.
- Increase the reach and consistent recognizability of Idyllwild Arts, as well as reflecting its distinct character and programs, and optimize differentiation in a very competitive market.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on all marketing activity and results.
- Optimize the school’s web activity including the development and execution of a comprehensive website and social media strategy, taking advantage of new media and markets.
- Broadcast student productions and achievements, and reflect the quality of teaching at IA.
- Work with staff and the Director of Communications to manage a consistent message through print web-based communications to alumni, parents, and potential donors.
- Oversee all advertising, website content, social media, and event promotion, including setting budgets and planned buys, researching specialized magazines, and placing ads.
- Integrate the outreach efforts of various departments (Advancement, Summer, Admission) and determine the need for and the design of publications, and supervise the staff of graphic designers.
- Facilitate informational exchanges with the faculty and staff.
- Coordinate and support special projects including photographic and video archives.
- Represent Idyllwild Arts to external constituents.
- Increase the number of Admission annual inquires
- Develop and manage with the Dean of Admission a budget to support these initiatives.

Idyllwild Arts Academy, an independent arts boarding school for 295 students in grades 9-12 located in the San Jacinto Mountains of southern California, is looking for a Visual Arts Chair starting in the 2012-2013 academic year.
The Chair of the Visual Arts Department is responsible for the curriculum and the program of the Visual Arts Department at Idyllwild Arts Academy. The department offers courses in Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Design, New Genres, Ceramics, and Photography, both Digital and Film. The Chair supervises four full-time faculty members including the Manager of the Parks Exhibition Center along with approximately five part-time faculty. Idyllwild graduates attend the top colleges and universities in the United States and abroad, and the very best conservatories and art schools, such as Juilliard, Curtis, SAIC, and the Rhode Island School of Design. Many have established celebrated careers as artists. The arts disciplines offered at the Academy include dance, music, visual arts, theatre, moving pictures and creative writing. Students may major in any one discipline or combine their interests in an InterArts major.
Idyllwild Arts seeks a dynamic leader who:
- Is a practicing artist with experience teaching art classes at all levels
- Has knowledge of contemporary issues and practices in art and arts careers
- Has demonstrated experience in developing high-school aged artists
In addition, the chair:
- Attends and participate in the regularly scheduled chair meetings
- Maintains the departmental budgets
- Encourages members of the department to pursue studies, attend conferences, and grow professionally
- Plans and conducts departmental meetings
- Secures substitute teachers and provide coverage for classes and duties during absences of any faculty member within the department
- Evaluates faculty within the department
- Ensures that proposed courses adhere to departmental scope and sequence
- Evaluates course offerings and submit required materials for all courses to the dean
- Assists the admission staff in the recruitment of qualified students for the school
- Serves as faculty advisor and fulfills other ancillary requirements of faculty at a residential high school such as a supervisory rotation, etc.
- Teaches coursework within his/her area of expertise
Qualifications: Undergraduate degree and MFA in Fine Arts (Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture) or related fields preferred; minimum five years’ teaching experience, preferably at the high school level; strong background and knowledge of the desired discipline; interest and demonstrated ability in teaching and supporting adolescents; sense of humor, flexibility, energy, collegiality, and the ability to work effectively with a team; ability to work well with a range of able, highly motivated students; strong organizational skills and high energy and creativity; technological literacy in standard programs (Word, Excel, Email, Social Media, etc.), and commitment to residential life and program.

JOB DESCRIPTION - DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENTIdyllwild Arts, which includes Idyllwild Arts Academy and Idyllwild Arts Summer Program, has initiated a search for a Director of Development. Idyllwild Arts is a co-ed boarding and day school for 275 students in grades 9-12. The Summer Program, founded in 1950, is an eight-week program that brings more than nearly 2,000 children, teens, and adults to Idyllwild each summer. The Academy was established in1986 to extend the Summer Program’s commitment to the arts through the only boarding high school for the arts on the west coast. The school has developed into an exceptional high school for pre-professional training in the arts combined with high academic standards and a residential life curriculum.

The Role
Under general direction of the President, to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate a comprehensive development program for Idyllwild Arts Academy and Summer Program. The incumbent will work closely with the Board of Governors and Trustees, community leaders, and staff to develop programs. Internally, the incumbent will implement, maintain, and strengthen communication and relationships between Idyllwild Arts programs and departments. The Director of Development is a member of the Executive Council, will coordinate the board Advancement Committee, and other committees as assigned by the President.
Responsibilities include building and sustaining personal, professional and organizational relationships, with both internal and external constituents on regional, national and international levels. Supervises six seasoned development professionals. Idyllwild Arts raises $3.28 Million annually (60% from foundations, 40% from individuals); and is in a $30 Million capital campaign.
Examples of Essential Duties
1. Actively manages a portfolio of principal, leadership, major gifts prospects and donors through active participation in their cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Personally solicits $500,000 per year towards annual giving.
2. Assists the President in establishing and coordinating his portfolio of donors and prospects.
3. Develops and implements a strategic, comprehensive development program.
4. Establishes department operating plan with annual goals, objectives, and strategies for development programs and events management. Develops and administers the Development Department budget.
5. Builds strong and effective relationships between Idyllwild Arts Board members, executives, academic leaders, key volunteers, and external audiences including donors, parents, alumni, business, media, and community leaders.
6. Provides executive leadership and management in the planning, preparation, and implementation of Idyllwild Arts capital campaigns.
7. Focuses development department’s activities on securing annual and capital gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations and developing alumni and parent relationships.
8. Implements and manages the administrative organization necessary to achieve development objectives. Actively manages a portfolio of principal, leadership, and major gift prospects and donors through active participation in their cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
9. Oversees development of solicitation materials, case statements, and other publications.
10. Other duties as assigned by the President or Board of Governors.
Minimum Qualifications
Thorough Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of planning and implementing comprehensive development programs.
- Planning and implementation techniques for major capital campaigns and annual giving campaigns of substantial size and scope.
- Management and supervision techniques of professional level staff.
- Techniques and programs to recruit volunteers and community members to support development.
- Unique requirements of development programs involving the fine arts.
- Non-profit corporate governance.
Ability to:
- Build productive long-term relationships both internally and externally.
- Plan, organize, and establish goals, objectives, and priorities.
- Evaluate program effectiveness, produce accurate information, maintain confidentiality of sensitive information; establish and maintain effective interpersonal communication within the Idyllwild Arts community.
- Make public presentations.
- Recruit, lead, and motivate staff.
- Use and direct staff in current computer software programs used to facilitate and analyze development programs.
Education
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field. CFRE, masters degree and arts development experience preferred.
Experience
Extensive full time experience (i.e., at least 10 years) in development work with progressively responsible experience. A proven record of success in solicitation of major gifts, significant hands on experience supporting and managing non-profit boards and/or other volunteers, and successful experience as a manager of people and processes with a commitment to professional development.

Job Description – Dean of Academics
The Dean of Academics is responsible for all aspects of the Idyllwild Arts academic program including curriculum, student achievement and assessment, and teaching effectiveness. The Dean is the direct supervisor of all academic department chairs, faculty, and the Librarian, and shares supervision of the Registrar, Academy Secretary, College Counselor, and others as assigned by the President.
The Dean of Academics works closely and collaboratively with the Dean of the Arts, the Dean of Students, and the President to ensure the excellence of the educational experience for Idyllwild Arts students. The Dean of Academics may also teach classes as agreed.
Among other responsibilities, the Dean will also: - Prepare the academic calendar, course schedule, registration process, and course catalog;
- Recruit and make hiring and retention recommendations for academic faculty;
- Manage the faculty evaluation and professional development processes;
- Establish work assignments and schedules for academic faculty;
- Share and discuss with faculty ideas on educational/philosophical interest and concern;
- Consult on classroom management, teaching methods, school procedures;
- Lead the curriculum development process;
- Consult with Admission on entry standards and individual student applicants;
- Coordinate the accreditation process and University of California curriculum standards;
- Communicate with students, families, teachers, and advisors regarding academics expectations;
- Prepare and oversee the annual academic budget;
- Maintain permanent student records;
- Coordinate student evaluation procedures, grading, and progress reports;
Candidates should have a minimum Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work, Education, English, Administration, Fine Arts or related field. Masters degree preferred. A minimum of five year’s independent school experience, including two years experience as department chair, dean, or equivalent educational administrative experience, is preferred.

Job Description - ESL TeacherIdyllwild Arts Academy is looking for a full-time ESL instructor to teach four sections of academic English-as-a-Second Language classes (skills-based and content-based courses in literature and writing on multiple levels), to serve as a dormitory parent and student advisor for international students, to help foster cross-cultural learning school-wide, and to assist international students with integration into the community. The position will start at the beginning of second semester of academic year 2011 – 2012 (late January 2012).
Candidates should have a minimum Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Education, English, International Studies, or related field. Masters degree preferred.
