Songwriting & Composition

Idyllwild Art’s Songwriting Concentration teaches Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced techniques for more experienced lyricists and songwriters. In the Songwriting Workshop you will study and analyze some of your favorite songs in the Pop Music genre (such as indie, rock, dance, commercial pop, rap, new soul, and R n B) to pinpoint what makes these songs so powerful and original. You will receive instant constructive feedback on your existing work and try out new techniques and ideas with peers and faculty.

Songwriting students will learn how to effectively create a chorus hook, structure and edit ideas effectively, find and develop an original lyric writing style, study and analyze songs in a variety of styles, create lyrics in a variety of styles, collaborate with others.

The Popular Music Course covers melody and harmony, form, piano-based improv

Students will also study music theory, music history, composition, film scoring, and creative writing and more.
