Musical Theatre Emphasis
Students wishing to develop the skills necessary to become a musical theatre performer combine preprofessional acting training with music and dance in a program that provides training and experience in those areas. The Musical Theatre emphasis prepares students for dynamic performance experience. The major is grounded in theatre arts, dance, and music theory, and provides experience in acting, voice and movement for the stage, applied voice, music, and dance. The musical theater program at the Idyllwild Arts Academy will help you integrate acting, dance, voice and music to become consistently believable and expressive. You'll develop:
A well rounded performance technique
Solid dance technique in Jazz, Tap Musical Theatre Dance Styles
Strong musical skills
Sight reading and aural skills
Understanding of the use of music as ‘text’
Private voice lessons are required each semester
Performance opportunities include mainstage productions ranging from classical, contemporary and musical theatre repertoire, plus black box Lab productions.
Individual college/conservatory counseling and exposure to the Unified College Auditions are offered to seniors in order to assist students in advanced training decision making.
