About Idyllwild
Courtesy of The Town Crier:
The Village of Idyllwild is nestled in the Strawberry Valley in the mountains above Palm Springs, California. At an elevation of 5,200 feet, the rustic getaway is set against a backdrop of mountains such as Tahquitz Peak and San Jacinto Peak that rise to more than 10,000 feet. The Village has been a popular getaway for Southern Californians for more than 100 years.
The Village has no ski slopes, no casinos, no fast-food franchises and no stoplights. What it does have is peace and quiet, beautiful scenery, world-class rock climbing on Tahquitz (Lily) Rock and Suicide Rock, hiking and mountain biking on a myriad of trails that scale grand mountains and wander through meadows and sleepy forests.
The Village proper caters to all those hearty wanderers who drive up from Palm Desert, Hemet or the Banning area off I-10. Restaurants offer everything from fine dining to hearty breakfasts, shops and galleries offer a bounty of handmade items from local artists and importers, inns and B&Bs are nestled in the Village or the peaceful woods near town in quiet, picturesqe settings.
The town has a thriving local economy with two larger food markets, three lumberyards, two gas stations, and much more.
