Visual Art Pre-Show
On Thursday April 28, Visual Art Major Jonathan, screened his Senior VA Video, "Uproot".  He used the Campus Children's center as the stage, utilizing the fire pit there, to burn parts of the tree he unearthed in the fall of 2005.  His senior show and this film, reflect his experience of living through Hurricane Katrina.  Jonathan's Aunt, Father and NOCCA instructor Nicki Jackson were special guests. Thanks to Danielle for the photos.

Eun Seam also had an afternoon sculpture event, she invited the community to walk her "labyrinth" piece behind Meadows 9, close to the ampitheatre.  This sculpture reflects her ongoing interest in outdoor, continuous sculptural forms.  She also made Korean sushi and shared her stories of constructing the piece with those who gathered.  Photographs of the artwork can also be seen in her senior show at Parks Exhibition Center. Thanks to Carolyn for the photos.

Take 1 Scene 1
On Saturday, April 29, The Moving Pictures Department invited active film professionals: independent producer Amy Salko Robertson, director Eli Akira Kaufman, cinematographer Bill Megalos, and Editor Leon Martin -  to produce a scene from an upcoming movie, Left At Albuquerque, from script to screen, in one day. Orange County Junior and Senior high school students
joined 11 of our film department students at the UC Irvine campus to serve in crew positions for the professionals. The group worked non-stop from 8am till 6pm to produce a specific film vision and to exemplify a day on the crew of a professional film team.

The event was co-sponsored by the Newport Beach Film Festival and the UC Irvine Extension. Thanks to Brad for the photos.

Film director Eli Akira Kaufman and Editor Leon Martin explain their decision-making process of where to cut individual shots to make an effective scene.

IAA Moving Pictures students and students from Orange County schools gather to watch the film they shot being edited.

Prom
A unique location for a unique school, this year's Prom was held at the top of an 8,000 foot mountain. Students took 3 charter busses down to Palm Springs where they offloaded and jumped on to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The tram took the students to Elevations, a restaurant at the top of the mountain where they enjoyed a Prime Rib Dinner. A live DJ and dancing added to excitement of the location. Thanks to our chaperones for making the event possible, and thanks to Mark for the photos.
