Theatre and Chemistry Collaboration
There was a great collaboration last week in Bonnie Carpenter’s design elective class in the Theatre department. The class is dealing with dyeing fabric and with Paul Volpe’s help in the chemistry lab the students were learning what happens at the molecular level with dyeing different types of fabrics. They had a great time and hope to do a couple more collaborations before the end of the year. Thanks to Bonnie for the photos.

International Dinner
On Sunday evening, Idyllwild Arts had its annual International Dinner. International Dinner is always a big event, with students and faculty cooking all day Sunday to prepare meals from all over the country and all over the world. The food is then shared with the rest of the Idyllwild Arts community in Rush Hall at dinner time. Thank you to Karin for organizing the event, to all the students, faculty, and volunteers who cooked and gave their kitchens and to Ed and Melissa for the photos.

NAACP ACT-SO
On April 23, 2006 six IAA students will be competing for scholarship awards in the NAACP ACT-SO Program. Jaimye, Rashaad, Joshua, Christina, Raven, and Andria will be displaying their various talents in hopes of receiving scholarship prizes towards furthering their arts education. Since 1978, the NAACP ACT-SO Program, often referred to as the Olympics of the Mind, has identified, enhanced, rewarded and showcased academic and artistic excellence among minority high school students nationwide. This year-long enrichment program identifies student’s unique talents, provides them with mentoring and coaching opportunities to perfect their talents and skills, and lastly allows them to test their skills against their peers in local and national competitions for cash awards, scholarships, equipment and prizes. The goal of ACT-SO is to provide students with the knowledge, confidence, resources and support needed to achieve their dreams and realize their potential. Thanks to Darren for the photo.
