Austin Film Festival
Two graduates of Idyllwild Arts Academy’s Moving Pictures Program (Ye Sul Park ’07, Patrick Gines ’07) and Spencer Koobatian ’09 traveled with Bradley Battersby, Chair of the Moving Pictures department, to the prestigious Austin Film Festival in Texas. This highly competitive festival features a Young Filmmakers category in which IAA's comedy “PINKY,” directed by Ye Sul Park, produced by Spencer Koobatian and starring Patrick Gines, was chosen to be screened with just 7 other films. The students participated in the Q&A that followed the screening and then went to several panels to hear directors such as Oliver Stone and Jason Reitman talk about their craft. A former school chum of Brad’s, the executive producer of the series “Friday Night Lights,” invited Brad and the students to visit the set of “Friday Night Lights,” meet the actors and watch the filming. An additional thrill for the students was talking to the winner of the Steven Spielberg’s reality-competition show, “On the Lot.” Ye Sul is currently a freshman at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and Patrick is a freshman at Florida State University. Thank you to June & Brad for the photos.
