Dear Idyllwild Community,

First, I am grateful for this opportunity and humbled by the honor of leading this extraordinary school.  I enjoyed meeting many of you during my visits in November and January, and look forward to getting to know everyone on campus and in the extended school community.

Idyllwild
is a vibrant and vital place, and its ideals work, visibly and daily, supported by the extraordinary devotion of the faculty to students’ needs and aspirations.  I look forward to joining the community, to further conversations on what we are all doing at the school, and to guide decisions that emerge from them.

Students at Idyllwild meet the challenges of their education -- engaging, responding, embracing, resonating, transforming –  in words, numbers, paint, sound, and movement – the language of each discipline through their own expressive voice.

A special word of thanks to Bill Lowman, who has dedicated a considerable amount of his time lately to passing along to me the wisdom of his 25 years at Idyllwild.

My wife Holiday Eames, our son David, and I thank the Trustees and Governors of Idyllwild Arts, the Search Committee, the faculty, the students, and the entire school community for welcoming us so warmly.  We are eager to get started.

I came across a quote by the poet Rainer Maria Rilke that embodies what I feel now – “The new page – We see the brightness of a new page where everything yet can happen...”

Yours,

Brian D. Cohen
